Community Programs
Our programs enable us to engage with all generations in Hays County, as we believe that we can make a positive impact on everyone, regardless of age.
JUNIOR DEPUTY PROGRAM
Covering essential topics such as K-9 operations, SWAT tactics, and traffic enforcement. Junior Deputy Academy is a three-day camp for children ages 9 to 12. This program provides young participants with an immersive experience in safety, crime scene investigation, use of force training, and more. Local fire and EMS crews also join in, making it an exciting and educational experience!
CITIZEN'S ACADEMY & ADVANCE CITIZEN'S ACADEMY
Are multi-week courses designed to educate participants about the workings of the Sheriff’s Office and its role in the community. Graduates can join the Citizen’s Academy Alumni Association, allowing them to volunteer and further contribute to community safety.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
Every year on the first Tuesday of October, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office participates in National Night Out, attending over 75 block parties. This event focuses on crime prevention and provides valuable tips for keeping homes and families safe.
BROWN SANTA
Sheriff’s Office participates in Brown Santa, an initiative to provide underprivileged children with gifts during the holiday season. Each family that requests assistance receives at least two wrapped toys, stocking stuffers, and a complete holiday meal.
There are numerous ways the Hays County Sheriff’s Office can assist you! Simply reach out to our Community Outreach team, and we’ll work together to find the best solutions for your needs.
Historically, these programs have operated on a zero-dollar budget, relying entirely on generous donations for essentials like snacks, T-shirts, and flyers. Hays County Community Engagement aims to help the Sheriff’s Office secure funding for these initiatives and develop new ways to serve our community better.
SUNSHINE KIDS FOUNDATION
During the summer, the Sunshine Kids Foundation hosts a week of activities for children battling cancer, with the Sheriff’s Office and local first responders ensuring an unforgettable experience. This week includes capital ride escorts, pool parties, horseback riding, and motorcycle rides, all designed to bring joy to these kids.
Throughout the year, the Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Unit offers a range of informative classes and training sessions. Topics include scam and fraud prevention, CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events), fentanyl awareness, home and business security assessments, RAD (women’s self-defense), and internet safety
and we do so much more!
Building bridges between first responders and citizens.
